Game Stop Sucks

Game Stop has been in the headlines on and off as of late because of how well they seem to be doing in the current economy. Game Stop is posting rosy results from their used game sales and high margin accessories. Game Stop has raised the ire of the game publishers for their pushing of used game sales. They have also upset the general public by paying low amounts for games, and then selling them for only a few dollars less than the new price. People bitch when they know they are being taken advantage of, and companies always bitch when they don’t think they are grabbing every dollar out there and then some. For me this was just a curiosity to look at and say was unfair to the consumer, and chuckle at the greedy game companies. That changed a couple weeks back. I bought a couple of Microsoft Wireless Headsets. Wal-Mart was out of stock, and I had a moment of weakness. The headsets turned out to be defective, and that is where the problem came in. I didn’t mind them being traded out the first time, but when the next one messed up, I just wanted to return them for either a refund or something else in the store. I would have liked to get my money back. I found out about the whacked returned policy when I tried to take the headsets back to the original store they told me I couldn’t because they were opened. The store did not have any in stock, so he flat out refused to return the headsets. He offered to call around for me to find a store that did have them in stock. Printed right there on the receipt it said that you can not return an accessory once it has been purchased for anything but the same item or a ‘like’ item. Buyer’s remorse or just plain care for your customer be damned. When I did find a store, it was close to 30 miles away. The Manager of the store threw a hissy fit. He did not want to let me return the headsets. When I asked for the district Manager’s phone number he disappeared in the back. He came back out a few minutes later, asked me for my license. After that, he traded me my headsets. What would have happened if none of the stores in my area had had any stock of the headsets in? Or if I just wanted to return them? I was not asking Game Stop to do anything no other store has been asked to do. I was not trying to return the headsets without a receipt. Yet, I was treated with disrespect and contempt for the fact that they sold a defective product and refused to take the return. I think the police would have treated me better if I had been arrested. I have not opened the new headsets I have purchased, but I’m not sure what to do. This has made decide though that my general aversion with anything Game Stop is justified, and has brought me to the next logical step boycotting Game Stop completely until they changed their return policy. What experiences good or bad have you guys run into with Game Stop? I’m sure there are times that they have gone the extra mile, or stores that treat people nicely. I want to hear the good, bad and the ugly.
