Emergency Eject for your Xbox 360
Drive tray stuck on your 360? Your copy of Gears of War or Halo stuck in it? The emergency eject button is the answer to your prayers. This little button built into the DVD-Rom drives of all the 360's made. It will release the eject mechanism on the 360 letting you slide out the tray. Your weapon of choice is a straight pin or a straightened paperclip. The first thing you will need to do is remove the face plate of your 360. Your 360 should look something like the below picture.
Each drive is different in how it handles the emergency eject procedure. Listed below are the three main types of drives available with the 360. If you already know your drive type, you can skip this next section to your specific drive. To determine your drive type take a look see in hole 3 and depending on the drive it will look something like the pics below.
Circuit board and red wire= Samsung
Black plastic divot = Hitachi
White wires and empty space = Benq
Toshiba/Samsung- When you hit the lever it will go in about 1/2", and then you will feel some resistence. Don't be afraid, keep pushing, you are actually pushing the tray out of the drive.
Hitachi- This one you will need to push in on hole #1. It will travel about a 1/2" with no problems, and them you will feel the resistance of the tray popping out.
Benq- This one is in #2, but will probably be better off with a straight pin or a hefty paper clip. The level orifice is tapered so it is self guiding. There will be quite a bit of resistance from the gears, but persistence and beefy tools will pop the tray out. If you do find your self missing the lever, you are probably angling it to the right. Just make sure you go straight in.
Once you get the drive to pop out you can just pull it out the rest of the way. This trick will get the drive unlocked.
