What Activision and Modern Warfare 2 showed us

From the Press Release:
| "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game records. There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game. In its first five days alone, the game sold an estimated $550 million worldwide, outpacing five-day worldwide theatrical box office gross figures for such films as Avatar, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Dark Night." |

Activision's statement of they are going to make many sequels to their biggest properties and publish as often as possibly seems to be paying off here. They even snubbed PC fans by making them pay the console price for the game, taking away dedicated server support, and hamstringing the modding community in general.
And with this comes the elitist entitlement view towards the gaming press. You could only review the prerelease version of the game if you accepted Activision's invitation to come to Santa Barbara, CA, in a all expenses paid trip. You had to play under the watchful eye of Activision.
Most news outlets didn't disclose this within their reviews of the game, and the ploy worked. They got a 94% Metacritic score.
Microsoft also paid a pretty penny for the game to have timed exclusive DLC for their system, yet they have been slow on delivering patches for the game.(Having just lived through the latest, the Care Package Glitch) For as much money I pay to play this game, paid to buy this game, they should be a little bit faster.
I don't feel like the game is worth this much, but obviously I'm in the minority on this one.
