Netflix Coming to the Wii

Posted by: rasp1 on: 02/06/2010 07:48 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

During the CES 2010, Netflix and Nintendo announced that Netflix streaming will be coming to the Wii in 2010. Nintendo is the last of the major console manufactures to add Netflix to their stable of features. The streaming will come way of a disk that you order from Netflix just like the PS3.

The Wii isn't new to streaming, it has been doing that since 2008 in Japan with Dentsu and Fujisoft. Of course no high definition content will be shown on the Wii since it isn't capable of displaying the content in any above 480p.

This should give a nice little boost in sales for Nintendo, plus a nice VAF to owners of the console already. Colin Dixon of the Diffusion Group had this to say,
"No major vendor sees its console as only a gaming platform; it’s just a question of the degree to which they extend console-based experiences and applications beyond the gaming center."
